Mexico City, March 13 – The Tecnológico de Monterrey and the Universidad Autónoma Metropolitana (UAM) have officially signed a collaboration agreement aimed at fostering academic excellence and driving social solutions in Mexico City. The partnership, formalized at the UAM’s rectorate, seeks to reposition the capital through various research projects and initiatives in the fields of health, urbanism, and social development.

Strategic Alliance for Mexico City’s Development

The agreement underscores a commitment from both institutions to generate improved academic training alternatives and contribute to the country’s economic, social, environmental, and technological advancement. A key component of this alliance is the collaboration with the Distrito Tlalpan initiative, which aims to catalyze research, urban development, and health improvements in the southern part of Mexico City.

Juan Pablo Murra, Rector of Tecnológico de Monterrey, emphasized the broader implications of this partnership. “I am convinced that this is not just an agreement between institutions, but rather a joint declaration of responsibility towards Mexico and towards the youth of Mexico to become engines of scientific, social, and territorial development,” Murra stated during the signing ceremony.

Distrito Tlalpan: A Hub for Innovation

Gustavo Pacheco López, General Rector of UAM, highlighted the potential of this university alliance to “add, promote, and recognize this strength, to assume ourselves as one of the main innovation ecosystems on the continent and in the world.”

Paulina Campos, Vice President of the Mexico City campuses, pointed out the unique geographical advantage of the area where both institutions and eight national health institutes are located. This concentration, she noted, positions Distrito Tlalpan as a crucial catalyst for knowledge, innovation, and new opportunities, including entrepreneurship.

Murra further elaborated on Distrito Tlalpan’s role as a dynamic platform for collaboration among academia, government, businesses, and the community. “These organizations are in Distrito Tlalpan to transform knowledge into real solutions and create ecosystems that not only transcend but also create value for everyone present here,” he added.

Innovation with Social Impact

For Tec de Monterrey, innovation extends beyond technological development to encompass the creation of “solutions with a social sense, urban, scientific, cultural, and community projects that respond to real needs and improve the quality of life of communities,” Murra explained. This approach underscores a commitment to addressing societal challenges through collaborative efforts.

The signing ceremony was also attended by Javier Guzmán López, Vice President of Research at Tec; Esthela Irene Sotelo Núñez, General Secretary of UAM; and Luis Enrique Gómez Quiroz, head of UAM’s General Academic Coordination.

This strategic alliance between Tecnológico de Monterrey and UAM is poised to significantly impact Mexico City’s landscape, fostering a vibrant ecosystem of research, innovation, and social responsibility. The focus on health, urbanism, and community-driven solutions through initiatives like Distrito Tlalpan aims to create lasting positive change for the capital and its residents.

The collaboration is expected to lead to a multitude of projects that will not only advance academic knowledge but also translate into tangible benefits for the community, reinforcing Mexico City’s position as a hub for progress and development.
