Yellow Alert Declared in Ciudad Juarez Due to High Winds and Dust Storms

Ciudad Juarez, Chihuahua, February 17, 2026 – The State Civil Protection Coordination (CEPC) has issued a yellow alert in the border region of Ciudad Juarez due to the presence of strong winds, which have generated dust storms and severely limited visibility on roadways. The public is urged to exercise extreme caution, particularly on the Chihuahua-Ciudad Juarez highway, where adverse driving conditions have been reported.

Wind Speeds and Affected Areas

Gusts of up to 75 kilometers per hour (km/h) have created dust storms on several key routes, including the Juarez-Janos, Chihuahua-Nuevo Casas Grandes, and Chihuahua-La Junta highways. Additionally, municipalities in the northwest and border regions have experienced various impacts from the strong winds.

Incidents and Emergency Response

According to reports received via the 9-1-1 emergency number, four billboards collapsed. One of these incidents caused a short circuit at the intersection of Gómez Morín and Paseo Victoria. Civil Protection personnel and emergency services promptly responded to these events.

The CEPC has deployed preventive patrols across different parts of the city to identify and address risk areas. On the affected highway stretches, communication is being maintained with authorities from all three levels of government to monitor conditions and provide assistance to drivers who may be at risk.

Safety Recommendations for Residents

In light of the hazardous conditions, the CEPC recommends that citizens:

  • Avoid unnecessary travel in the affected areas.
  • Drive with extreme caution, keeping headlights on and maintaining a safe distance between vehicles.
  • Secure any loose objects in patios and on rooftops that could be carried away by the wind.
  • Stay informed through official announcements.
  • Report any emergency situations to the 9-1-1 emergency number.

These measures are crucial to ensure public safety and minimize the risks associated with the ongoing strong winds and dust storms in the region.
