Mexico City, February 26 – The government of Yucatan recently conducted a series of high-level meetings in Mexico City, engaging with federal government officials and national financial institutions. The discussions centered on advancing strategic projects aimed at fostering regional development, attracting investments, boosting tourism, improving healthcare, strengthening public finances, and enhancing state infrastructure.

Key Projects Under Review

A central focus of the meetings was the review of progress on the expansion and modernization project of the Port of Progreso. This initiative is considered a strategic cornerstone for establishing Yucatan as a logistics, tourism, and industrial hub in southeastern Mexico.

Discussions also covered the advancements in the ‘Poles of Welfare’ program and infrastructure development designed to attract productive investments, particularly in the industrial, technological, and services sectors. The agenda, conducted entirely in Mexico City, also addressed topics related to tourism promotion, healthcare provision, balanced regional development, and coordination with the Federation to bolster the state’s financial capabilities and ensure the viability of high-impact projects.

Financial Strengthening and Investment Strategy

In fiscal matters, mechanisms for coordination with the Mexican government were reviewed, alongside the progress in signing the IB agreement. This agreement is specifically designed to strengthen state public finances, aiming to ensure stability, planning, and budgetary certainty.

Governor Joaquín Díaz Mena emphasized that these meetings are an integral part of a comprehensive strategy to position Yucatan as a competitive and reliable state for investment. This effort is aligned with the ‘Maya Renaissance’ initiative, which promotes orderly development, modern infrastructure, and long-term growth.

“We are building solid conditions for investment to continue flowing, consolidate, and generate well-paid jobs for Yucatecan families,” stated the governor.

High-Level Federal Engagement

During his visit, Governor Díaz Mena met with several key federal officials from President Claudia Sheinbaum’s cabinet. These included Josefina Rodríguez Zamora, Secretary of Tourism; Marcelo Ebrard Casaubón, Secretary of Economy; and Raymundo Pedro Morales Ángeles, Secretary of the Navy, among other high-ranking federal functionaries.

The proactive engagement in Mexico City underscores Yucatan’s commitment to securing federal support and financial backing for its ambitious development agenda. The outcomes of these meetings are expected to significantly influence the pace and scope of various projects across the state, contributing to its economic growth and social welfare.

The Yucatan government’s delegation highlighted the importance of these collaborative efforts in achieving their vision for a prosperous and sustainable future for the state, leveraging its unique geographical position and cultural heritage.
