Man Dies After Hit-and-Run in Ciudad Juárez; Driver Flees Scene
Ciudad Juárez, Chihuahua, May 18, 2026 – A man was tragically killed in a hit-and-run incident on Sunday night, May 17, in Ciudad Juárez. The victim was attempting to cross a street when he was struck by a vehicle whose driver subsequently fled the scene without rendering aid.
According to preliminary reports from authorities, the incident occurred on Libramiento Independencia at its intersection with Paseo del Sur. A vehicle traveling on Libramiento Independencia struck a man who was crossing the roadway. Following the impact, the driver dragged the victim for several meters before escaping the scene.
Paramedics Confirm Man’s Death
Emergency services, including elements from the Municipal Public Security Secretariat, were the first to arrive at the location. They secured the area, allowing volunteer paramedics to administer first aid to the victim. However, minutes later, paramedics confirmed that the man no longer showed any vital signs.
Agents from the General Coordination of Road Safety later arrived to conduct the necessary investigations, closing two lanes of Libramiento Independencia to facilitate their work. Personnel from the State Attorney General’s Office collected evidence, and elements of the Forensic Medical Service transported the body to their facilities for an autopsy and identification.
Authorities Seek Responsible Driver
Authorities have stated that no information is currently available regarding the vehicle involved or its driver. However, investigators are hopeful that a Centinela surveillance camera located near the intersection will provide crucial evidence to identify and locate the driver responsible for the fatal incident.
This incident is part of a series of recent events in Ciudad Juárez and Chihuahua. Other notable occurrences include a fire at a maquiladora in Colonia Fernández, the arrest of a suspect in a double homicide at a shopping mall in Ciudad Juárez, and an armed pursuit ending in a crash and three arrests in Chihuahua.
The investigation is ongoing, and authorities are urging anyone with information to come forward to assist in bringing the responsible party to justice. The identity of the victim has not yet been released pending the autopsy and notification of next of kin.
