Mexico and US Delegations Meet to Resume Security Dialogue
Mexico City, June 12, 2026 – Delegations from the governments of Mexico and the United States met this Friday in Mexico City to follow up on the bilateral security agenda. The meeting included sub-secretary level officials from both nations, focusing on key aspects of cooperation.
Mexican Delegation Led by Foreign Minister Velasco
The Mexican delegation was composed of representatives from various institutions responsible for security and justice, as announced by President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo earlier in the day. She stated that the meeting was led by Foreign Minister Roberto Velasco, alongside representatives from the Attorney General’s Office, the Secretariat of Citizen Security, the Secretariat of National Defense, the Navy, and the National Guard.
Sheinbaum also indicated that the Mexican government would press for resolution on pending issues with US authorities. Among these is the request for evidence related to detention requests filed by the US government against Mexican politicians, including the former governor of Sinaloa, Rubén Rocha Moya.
Focus on Border Security and Money Laundering
Earlier this week, Foreign Minister Roberto Velasco had confirmed that talks between Mexican officials and representatives of the US Embassy would resume this Friday. The discussions aim to evaluate progress on border security and the fight against money laundering, crucial aspects of the bilateral relationship.
The meeting underscores the ongoing commitment of both countries to address shared security challenges through diplomatic channels and collaborative efforts. Further details on the outcomes of the discussions are expected to be released as the dialogue progresses.
