CIUDAD JUÁREZ, Chihuahua – A public notary office in Ciudad Juárez, Chihuahua, was subjected to gunfire on Thursday night, July 2, 2026. The perpetrators reportedly left a pig’s head at the scene of the incident.

Details of the Attack

The incident was reported around 10:00 PM at Public Notary Office Number 9, located at Carlos Villarreal 2389, at the corner of Gregorio M. Solís, in the Margaritas neighborhood. Municipal Public Security Secretariat (SSPM) officers were the first to respond after receiving a 911 call reporting multiple gunshots.

Upon arrival, municipal agents confirmed the report and notified the State Investigation Agency (AEI). Investigative police and forensic services personnel were dispatched to the site to begin their work.

Evidence Collected at the Scene

During their initial investigation, agents secured several 9mm shell casings, various papers, and a pig’s head that had been left at the main entrance of the notary office.

As of now, there have been no reports of injuries or arrests related to the attack. The Attorney General’s Office continues to conduct the necessary investigations to clarify the motive behind the incident.

Official Statements and Ongoing Investigation

Authorities have not yet released official statements regarding potential suspects or the specific nature of the threats. The presence of a pig’s head often signifies a message or warning in organized crime contexts, suggesting a possible link to such activities, though this remains unconfirmed by official sources.

The investigation is ongoing, with forensic experts examining the evidence collected to identify the individuals responsible for the attack.

Safety Recommendations During an Armed Attack

In light of such incidents, Civil Protection authorities recommend following the ‘run, hide, and report’ rule during a shootout or armed attack:

  • If a safe escape route is available, immediately leave the area and seek refuge away from windows or access points.
  • If escape is not possible, find solid cover (such as concrete walls or sturdy structures) and stay low to the ground.
  • Remain silent, put cell phones on vibrate mode, and avoid recording or peeking out to observe the situation.
  • Once safe, call 911 and provide the exact location and any information that could assist authorities.

Experts emphasize that the priority is always to protect one’s life and not to confront aggressors.

This incident is part of a broader pattern of violence in Ciudad Juárez, a city that has frequently faced challenges related to organized crime and security.
