Ciudad Juarez, Chihuahua, Mexico, July 15 – Chihuahua Health Secretary Gilberto Baeza confirmed yesterday afternoon that extensive renovation work is set to commence at the Ciudad Juarez General Hospital. The project aims to modernize facilities that have not seen significant upgrades in decades, ensuring better service for the local population.
Major Rehabilitation for Operating Rooms
Baeza stated that the bidding process for the renovation has concluded, and a company has been assigned to carry out the work under the coordination of the Secretary of Public Works. A key focus of the rehabilitation will be the operating rooms, which are slated for a major overhaul.
“It will be an important rehabilitation that has not been done in decades,” Baeza remarked, emphasizing the necessity of these upgrades. To minimize disruption to patient services, efforts will be made to schedule surgical procedures in advance, ensuring continuity of care during the renovation period.
Strategic Investment and Existing Upgrades
The renovations are part of a broader investment strategy aligned with the priorities set by Governor Maru Campos, focusing on the most pressing needs of the hospital. Baeza also highlighted previous improvements, including upgrades to the emergency department and the pre-discharge area. The hospital currently boasts a state-of-the-art magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) machine, further enhancing its diagnostic capabilities.
When questioned about the possibility of constructing a new hospital in Ciudad Juarez, Baeza clarified, “No, not at the moment.” He explained that the current strategy involves dignifying and optimizing existing facilities to ensure they are functional and meet the healthcare demands of the residents.
Complementary Healthcare Services
In addition to the renovations, Baeza noted the hospital’s linear accelerator provides services to MediChihuahua, the Mexican Social Security Institute (IMSS), and the Institute for Social Security and Services for State Workers (ISSSTE). This collaborative approach aims to complement healthcare services across various systems, benefiting a wider patient base.
Recent investments have also been directed towards other key healthcare facilities in the region, including the Children’s Hospital and the Women’s Hospital, underscoring a comprehensive effort to improve public health infrastructure in Chihuahua.
Impact on Ciudad Juarez
The renovation project is expected to significantly enhance the quality of healthcare services available to the residents of Ciudad Juarez. By modernizing critical areas such as operating rooms and improving overall infrastructure, the hospital will be better equipped to handle a growing number of patients and provide more advanced medical care. This initiative reflects the government’s commitment to strengthening public health services in the region and addressing long-standing needs within the community.
The Secretary of Public Works will oversee the project to ensure its timely and efficient completion, with regular updates expected as the renovation progresses. The focus on proactive scheduling of surgeries aims to mitigate any potential inconvenience for patients, demonstrating a patient-centric approach to this major undertaking.
