Man Amputates Neighbor’s Hand with Samurai Sword in Ciudad Juárez Parking Dispute
Ciudad Juárez, Chihuahua, Mexico – August 15, 2026 – A man identified as Yovani Said G. C. will face criminal charges for qualified assault after allegedly amputating his neighbor’s hand with a samurai sword during a dispute over a parking space in Ciudad Juárez. The incident, which occurred last Sunday, led to the immediate arrest of the alleged assailant and severe injuries for the victim.
The events unfolded on Desierto de Sahel street, near Zaragoza Boulevard. According to reports, Yovani Said G. C. used a samurai-type sword to sever the hand of the victim, identified as 45-year-old José Pablo A. C.
Victim’s Hand Unable to Be Reattached
José Pablo A. C. was immediately transported for medical attention. Despite prompt medical intervention, doctors were unable to reattach the amputated hand. The victim’s health status was initially reported as reserved, but he has since been discharged from the hospital.
Yovani Said G. C. was apprehended in flagrante delicto by municipal police officers and subsequently handed over to the Attorney General’s Office.
Legal Proceedings Underway
On Friday, August 14, a hearing for the formal charging of Yovani Said G. C. took place. During the hearing, the Public Ministry of the Unit of Damages and Injuries of the state Attorney General’s Office, Northern District, presented various pieces of evidence to establish the probable responsibility of the accused in the incident.
The Control Judge overseeing the case ratified the precautionary measure of preventive detention imposed on the defendant and resolved his legal situation. Additionally, a six-month period has been set for the closure of the complementary investigation.
The case highlights the extreme nature of the dispute and the severe consequences for both individuals involved. Authorities continue to investigate the full circumstances surrounding the incident.
