Ciudad Juárez, Chihuahua – The State DIF (Sistema para el Desarrollo Integral de la Familia) in Ciudad Juárez has initiated the production of prosthetic limbs for ten patients, marking a significant step in local rehabilitation services. This development follows the announcement a few months ago regarding the hiring of a prosthetist for the city.

Prosthetics Undergoing Testing Phase

Cecilia Andrade, a representative for DIF Estatal, confirmed that the rehabilitation department currently has ten individuals on its waiting list. The prosthetics for these patients are in the crucial testing phase, ensuring a custom and comfortable fit before finalization.

The prosthetics are being manufactured at the Centro de Rehabilitación Integral Familiar (CRIF), located on Fierro Street in the city center. A dedicated workshop has been established within the facility to accommodate the specialized equipment and processes required for prosthetic fabrication.

Complex Manufacturing Process Offers Significant Savings

Andrade elaborated on the intricate nature of prosthetic production, highlighting that the process involves multiple tests and adjustments before a custom mold can be created for each patient. This meticulous approach ensures the highest quality and functionality of the prosthetic devices.

A key benefit of this local initiative is the substantial cost savings for patients. Andrade emphasized that a prosthetic limb purchased on the open market can range in price from 100,000 to 150,000 pesos. By producing these devices in-house, DIF Estatal is providing an invaluable service, making essential medical devices accessible to those who might otherwise be unable to afford them.

Impact on the Community

The establishment of this prosthetics workshop within CRIF represents a significant advancement in healthcare services for Ciudad Juárez. It not only addresses a critical need for affordable prosthetic limbs but also enhances the overall rehabilitation capabilities of the region. This initiative underscores DIF Estatal’s commitment to improving the quality of life for its residents, particularly those requiring specialized medical assistance.

The program is expected to expand its reach and capacity in the future, potentially serving more patients and further reducing the financial burden associated with prosthetic care.
