Ciudad Juárez, Chihuahua, Mexico – April 22, 2026 – The Investment Committee, headed by Mayor Cruz Pérez Cuéllar, has given the green light to a significant investment of 661 million pesos for six crucial road infrastructure projects in Ciudad Juárez. These projects, funded by surplus resources from the trust, are designed to tackle the increasing vehicular traffic and enhance urban mobility in the border city. The general director of the Chihuahua Border Bridges Trust, Rogelio Fernández, stated that the works are anticipated to be completed by August 2027.
Key Projects to Revolutionize Traffic Flow
Among the primary undertakings is the construction of an underpass on Juan Pablo II Boulevard, running east-west, at its intersection with Francisco Villarreal Torres. This particular project aims to streamline vehicular circulation by eliminating traffic lights, ensuring continuous flow on one of the city’s busiest thoroughfares.
Additionally, plans include the construction of an overpass on Paseo de la Victoria, facilitating both north-south and south-north traffic, specifically at its junction with Teófilo Borunda Boulevard. Another overpass is projected for the intersection with Manuel Gómez Morín, further alleviating congestion in these critical areas.
Addressing Flood Prevention and Drainage
Beyond traffic improvements, the comprehensive package of works incorporates vital pluvial interventions to prevent flooding. A significant focus is placed on the intersection of Francisco Villarreal Torres and Paseo de la Victoria, where existing collection basins and absorption wells will be rehabilitated and expanded. This measure is crucial for a city that frequently experiences heavy rainfall.
Further efforts in flood mitigation include the replacement of pluvial grates in the Pradera Dorada neighborhood and on Insurgentes Avenue in the Chaveña district. These replacements are necessary because the current grates are unable to withstand the constant passage of heavy-duty vehicles, leading to structural failures and drainage issues.
Future Developments and Community Involvement
During the meeting, additional executive projects were presented for future underpasses at key locations such as Avenida De las Torres and Manuel Talamás Camandari, Francisco Villarreal Torres and Valle del Sol, and at the intersection with Prolongación Tomás Fernández. These prospective projects underscore the city’s commitment to continuously addressing the growing demand for improved road infrastructure driven by urban expansion.
The Investment Committee meeting saw active participation from municipal authorities, as well as representatives from the business sector and civil society, emphasizing a collaborative approach to urban development. The approved investments are expected to significantly enhance the quality of life for residents by reducing commute times, improving safety, and mitigating environmental impacts related to traffic and flooding.
The city’s ongoing commitment to infrastructure development reflects a proactive stance in managing the challenges of rapid urbanization and ensuring a sustainable future for Ciudad Juárez.
