Chihuahua Health Ministry Launches Free Vasectomy Campaign in Ciudad Juárez

Ciudad Juárez, Chihuahua, July 17, 2026 – The Chihuahua Health Ministry has announced its second free no-scalpel vasectomy campaign in Ciudad Juárez. This initiative aims to provide men with a permanent and effective method of family planning. The campaign will run from July 21 to 26, with procedures available at four designated health centers across the city.

Medical professionals from the Health Ministry highlighted the growing trend of young adults opting not to have children or choosing permanent contraceptive methods. This campaign directly addresses this demographic shift, offering a safe and accessible option for family planning.

Campaign Details and Objectives

The Health Ministry’s annual target for vasectomies is 832 procedures. As of mid-year, 447 vasectomies have been performed, representing 54% of the annual goal. This upcoming campaign is crucial for reaching the remaining target.

Specialists emphasized that the effectiveness of a vasectomy does not vary with the patient’s age. They also reiterated that the procedure does not impact hormonal production or sexual desire, addressing common misconceptions surrounding the surgery.

The No-Scalpel Vasectomy Procedure

The no-scalpel vasectomy is a Chinese technique developed in 1974 by Dr. Li Shunqiang and introduced in Mexico in 1990. This minimally invasive procedure is performed on an outpatient basis using only local anesthesia and two specialized forceps. The entire process typically takes only 10 to 15 minutes, allowing patients to leave shortly after.

One of the significant advantages of this method is that it does not require pre-operative laboratory tests. The primary requirement for interested individuals is a firm decision not to have more children. Recovery is generally quick, with minimal post-operative care needed, mainly focusing on wound hygiene. A follow-up sperm count is performed later to confirm the absence of sperm.

Participating Health Centers and Requirements

The free vasectomy campaign will be conducted at the following health centers in Ciudad Juárez:

  • Centro de Salud Senderos
  • Centro de Salud Dr. Luis Estavillo Muñoz
  • Centro de Salud Todos Somos Mexicanos
  • Centro de Salud Águilas de Zaragoza

Individuals interested in undergoing the procedure must present their CUR (Unique Population Registry Code) and an official identification. While the campaign is scheduled from July 21 to 26, the program for vasectomies remains permanently available throughout the year at these centers for those who cannot attend during the campaign week.

Addressing Public Health Needs

This initiative underscores the Health Ministry’s commitment to providing comprehensive reproductive health services and empowering individuals to make informed decisions about their family planning. By offering free and accessible vasectomies, the ministry aims to improve public health outcomes and support the evolving needs of the population in Ciudad Juárez.
