Juárez Mayor Compares Patrol Car Costs: Nearly 3 Million Pesos Saved Per Unit Against Chihuahua City
Ciudad Juárez, February 24, 2026 – Mayor Cruz Pérez Cuéllar has drawn a stark comparison between the costs of acquiring patrol cars in Ciudad Juárez and Chihuahua City, revealing a difference of nearly 3 million pesos per unit. He emphasized that while Juárez opts for direct purchase, making the vehicles municipal property, Chihuahua City employs a leasing scheme.
According to Mayor Pérez Cuéllar, the average cost per patrol car in Ciudad Juárez is 1,255,325 pesos. This figure is part of a total investment of 213,505,177 pesos for the acquisition of 170 units through a direct purchase model, ensuring the patrol cars become municipal assets.
In contrast, the mayor pointed out that in Chihuahua City, the average cost per patrol car stands at a significantly higher 4,120,779 pesos per unit. This is under a leasing arrangement, meaning the units do not become municipal property. This cost is part of an approximate 634 million peso contract for 154 patrol cars.
Pérez Cuéllar underscored that the discrepancy is not solely in the total amount but also in the acquisition model. Juárez chose direct purchase and incorporation of the units into municipal patrimony, whereas Chihuahua City opted for a leasing scheme at a considerably higher cost per unit.
The mayor explained that, on a per capita basis, each citizen in Juárez contributes approximately 141 pesos for the direct purchase of patrol cars. In contrast, each resident in Chihuahua City would be paying 677 pesos under the leasing scheme.
The comparison between the two municipalities, he stressed, allows for an understanding of the impact of public resource utilization in security matters and the importance of adopting efficient and transparent acquisition mechanisms.
Mayor Pérez Cuéllar reiterated that during his administration, more than 114 new patrol cars have been incorporated, and the security strategy implemented in the city has shown positive results. He affirmed that the direct investment scheme in police equipment will continue.
The mayor’s statements highlight a commitment to fiscal responsibility and efficient resource management in Ciudad Juárez’s public safety efforts, setting a precedent for other municipalities to consider when investing in essential services.
