Man Linked to Process for Torturing and Killing Chow Chow in Ciudad Juárez
Chihuahua, Chih. – A 22-year-old man, Brandon Aarón D. P., has been linked to criminal proceedings and will remain in preventive detention for his alleged responsibility in the abuse and death of a chow chow dog. He, along with two adolescents, allegedly beat and skinned the dog alive in Ciudad Juárez.
The State Prosecutor’s Office for the Northern Zone, through the Specialized Unit for Crimes against Peace, Personal Security, and Public Faith, accused Brandon Aarón of the crime of animal cruelty. The charges stem from aggressions that led to the canine’s death, which occurred between July 13 and 14 of this year in the Del Real neighborhood.
The chow chow was found alive by a rescuer but died shortly after due to the severity of its injuries. Brandon Aarón D. P. was arrested on September 3 under an arrest warrant executed by agents of the State Investigation Agency (AEI) in the Plutarco Elías Calles neighborhood of Ciudad Juárez.
The Control Judge, overseeing criminal case 3628/2026, resolved the legal status of the accused, who will face charges under preventive detention. A four-month period has been established for the closing of the complementary investigation.
The Northern Zone District Attorney’s Office, through the Specialized Unit for Criminal Justice for Adolescents, is also conducting investigations into the possible involvement of two minors in these criminal acts.
The Municipal Government’s Directorate of Animal Care and Welfare (DABA) delivered the dog’s body to the Autonomous University of Ciudad Juárez, where an autopsy was performed to determine the cause of death and provide evidence for the investigation. According to results released by DABA, the animal suffered injuries inflicted with a sharp weapon, and virtually all its skin was removed while it was still alive.
Alma Arredondo Salinas, head of DABA, explained that DABA personnel and the State Attorney General’s Office visited the site where the chow chow was found, following reports on social media, to initiate the corresponding proceedings.
This case highlights the ongoing efforts to combat animal cruelty in the region and bring perpetrators to justice. The collaboration between different agencies underscores the seriousness with which such crimes are being treated.
The incident has sparked outrage among animal welfare advocates and the general public, calling for stricter penalties for animal abuse. The investigation into the minors’ involvement is ongoing, and further details are expected as the case progresses.
The community of Ciudad Juárez remains vigilant, hoping for a swift and just resolution to this tragic event. Authorities continue to encourage citizens to report any instances of animal cruelty to ensure the safety and well-being of companion animals.
