MEXICO CITY, May 4, 2026 – The Government of Mexico City, through the Secretariat of Environment (Sedema), has announced the call for the Environmental Merit Award of Mexico City 2026. This initiative seeks to acknowledge, incentivize, and disseminate actions, projects, and trajectories that significantly contribute to environmental protection, ecological conservation, and sustainable development within the city.

Categories and Eligibility for the Environmental Merit Award

The call is open to individuals, legal entities, collectives, institutions, and companies. Submissions can be made individually or in groups, but only in one category. The diverse categories include environmental culture and communication, art and environment, environmental innovation and research, youth for the environment, community and territorial action, business sector and sustainable entrepreneurship, women and environment, as well as agrarian nuclei and environmental education for group participation.

To be eligible, candidacies must demonstrate verifiable impact within Mexico City and possess a minimum trajectory of three years in the selected category, with the exception of the youth for the environment category. Furthermore, applicants must transparently declare the origin of their resources if they have funding and comply with all requirements stipulated in the official call.

Submission Process and Award Details

The registration process is entirely digital, conducted through Sedema’s official platform. Applicants are required to compile an electronic file containing a letter of nomination, letters of recommendation, a curriculum vitae or institutional profile, identification or legal representation documents, a technical sheet, evidence of the project, and a signed commitment letter.

A single award will be granted per category. Each award consists of an official recognition signed by the Head of Government and the head of Sedema, an economic incentive of $30,000.00 M.N. (Mexican Pesos), institutional dissemination of the project through the Secretariat’s official channels, and special participation in Climate Action Week 2026.
