SSPE Apprehends Suspect in Armed Assault in Ciudad Juárez

Ciudad Juárez, Chihuahua, Mexico – The State Public Security Secretariat (SSPE), under the leadership of Gilberto Loya, announced the arrest of a suspect in Ciudad Juárez on Monday, June 29, 2026. The individual, identified as Sergio S. V., was apprehended in connection with a previous armed assault. During the operation, authorities seized two firearms and a vehicle allegedly involved in the incident.

Investigation and Deployment Lead to Arrest

The arrest was the result of ongoing investigative efforts and a strategic police deployment by State Police personnel. Officers were actively investigating an armed assault that occurred in the Galeana neighborhood, which had left one person injured by a firearm projectile.

During the investigation, state agents received an alert from the Tactical Analysis Directorate. The alert, generated through the Plataforma Centinela video surveillance system, indicated that the vehicle allegedly involved in the assault – a gray 2003 BMW – had been detected in circulation.

High-Speed Chase and Apprehension

Following the alert, law enforcement immediately launched a search operation. Unmanned aerial vehicles (drones) were deployed, and their cameras successfully located the suspect vehicle moving on Apaxtla Street in the Burócrata neighborhood. Upon realizing the police presence, the driver attempted to evade authorities, leading to a brief pursuit. The chase concluded with the interception of the vehicle and the arrest of the 36-year-old man.

Seizure of Firearms and Vehicle

Following the apprehension, officers conducted a thorough inspection of the vehicle. Inside the glove compartment, they discovered and seized two pistol-type firearms. These findings led to the formal arrest of Sergio S. V. Both the seized vehicle and the firearms were subsequently placed at the disposal of the Public Ministry for further investigation.

SSPE’s Commitment to Public Safety

The State Public Security Secretariat reiterated its commitment to combating high-impact crimes, as instructed by Secretary Gilberto Loya. The SSPE emphasized its dedication to utilizing all available operational and technological resources to ensure peace and justice for families in Chihuahua.

This incident highlights the ongoing efforts of law enforcement in Ciudad Juárez to address violent crime and maintain public order. The swift action and coordinated use of technology, such as the Plataforma Centinela and drones, were crucial in the successful apprehension of the suspect.

The authorities have not yet released further details regarding the identity of the injured person or the specific circumstances of the initial armed assault. The investigation is ongoing, and more information is expected to be released as it becomes available.

The SSPE continues to encourage citizens to report any suspicious activities or information that could assist in maintaining security within the state.
