Ciudad Juarez, May 15 – Authorities in Ciudad Juarez have apprehended a suspect in connection with the double homicide of two young men at a local shopping plaza. The Secretaría de Seguridad Pública Municipal (SSPM) announced the arrest of Miguel Ángel H. R., 39, following a pursuit that began after officers heard gunshots.
Police Respond to Gunshots, Initiate Pursuit
The incident unfolded on the morning of Friday, May 15, when SSPM officers were patrolling the intersection of Ejército Nacional and Plutarco Elías Calles. Upon hearing gunshots, they quickly launched an operation to locate the source of the gunfire. Arriving at the scene where two victims lay deceased, officers observed a sand-colored, older model pickup truck, lacking license plates, fleeing at high speed with three individuals inside. This observation initiated a police pursuit.
The Pursuit and Arrest
The chase concluded when the suspects abandoned their vehicle and attempted to escape on foot. However, one of the individuals, later identified as Miguel Ángel H. R., was apprehended at the intersection of Av. Ejército Nacional and Camino Viejo a San José.
Evidence Seized: Firearm and Vehicles
Following the arrest, officers conducted a preventive search of the suspect, locating a .45 caliber firearm tucked into his waistband, loaded with four live cartridges. A 2001 model Yukon truck, believed to have been used during the pursuit, was also secured at the scene.
Hours later, authorities located a second vehicle, an older model purple 4×4, abandoned at the intersection of Luis Lendon Castillo and Av. Valentín Fuentes in the Infonavit Casas Grandes neighborhood. This vehicle is also believed to be connected to the double homicide.
Investigation Ongoing
The SSPM has not yet released further details regarding the motive for the double homicide or the identities of the two victims. The investigation is ongoing, and authorities are working to determine the full extent of Miguel Ángel H. R.’s involvement and to identify and apprehend the other individuals who fled the scene.
This incident adds to recent concerns regarding security in Chihuahua, with other reported incidents including the discovery of a deceased man in Infonavit Solidaridad and a woman crashing into three businesses in Ciudad Juarez. Additionally, a young woman was arrested in Namiquipa for allegedly killing her newborn baby.
