Mexico City, August 13, 2026 – With the start of the new school year approaching, the Federal Consumer Prosecutor’s Office (PROFECO) has launched a series of nationwide events designed to help Mexican families manage their back-to-school budgets. In an interview for the program “Noticias de la Tarde” on Heraldo Televisión, Naomi Fuentes, General Coordinator of Education and Dissemination at PROFECO, provided details about the upcoming School Supplies Fair in Mexico City.
PROFECO Aims to Alleviate Financial Strain for Families
Fuentes emphasized that the primary goal of these commercial fairs, held at various locations across the country, is to assist families with their back-to-school expenses by offering discounts of up to 50% on a wide range of items.
“These fairs aim to help families organize and plan their budget, and we are offering them, through suppliers, discounts from 10% up to 50%,” said Fuentes.
Extended Fair in Mexico City Due to High Demand
In addition to school supplies, the fair will feature complementary services such as free haircuts, medical certificates, and birth certificate issuance in some states. Naomi Fuentes highlighted the variety of products available to the public.
“We will have footwear, uniforms, backpacks, school supplies; everything you need for this back-to-school season will be found at this fair,” she stated.
Given the high turnout at previous editions, where approximately 8,000 people attended a single day, the official outlined the dates and logistics for the capital. The Mexico City event will take place this weekend, August 15 and 16, at Expo Reforma. The duration has been extended to two days, effectively doubling its capacity.
“This time, Prosecutor Iván Escalante instructed us to extend the event; it will be two days, and it will occupy two floors at Expo Reforma,” Fuentes confirmed.
Conscious Consumption and Family Budgeting Encouraged
Regarding purchasing options, it was confirmed that participating establishments will accept scholarship cards and government support. Fuentes stressed the importance of consulting the August quality study from the Consumer Magazine before making purchases.
“You can make a comparison, because there are products that may be of the same quality, very similar, but with a huge difference in price,” she advised.
Finally, the General Coordinator of Education and Dissemination urged citizens and children to adopt responsible consumption habits.
“They should also reflect on whether they really need a product or if they can reuse something from last year, which is also important to have this ecological awareness,” Fuentes concluded.
